Shop Britto Store Makes its Debut @ MIA Airport

Move over La Carreta... there's a new neighbor at the American Airlines North Terminal inside the Miami International Airport, and (gasp) he's not Cuban!
Romero Britto, the world-renowned, Brazilian artist who's artwork has been displayed around the globe, from museums to cars and vodka bottles, will celebrate the opening of his new store, SHOP BRITTO® tomorrow at MIA. Now tourists can take home a piece of Romero’s beautiful art before leaving South Florida. This beats any other kind of memorabilia you'll want to take home with you when leaving Miami.

The new retail store @ MIA features prints, souvenirs, casual clothes and other collectibles featuring Britto’s artistic creations at popular prices. Make sure you check it out the next time you're at the airport!

Romero Britto Charged with DUI
By Kyle Munzenrieder in NewsThursday, Mar. 26 2009 @ 4:38PMPop "artist" Romero Britto got a DUI early this morning. He was driving around in his 2001 Bentley on Washington Avenue, casually swerving between lanes and almost hitting other cars. Although it's fortunate there were no injuries, it is a shame he did not crash into one of his sculptures.

Cristina Getty says:
He is a binge drinker and is very dangerous, he is a danger to society and needs to go into rehab or to jail, he doesn't even paint his own art anymore, it is all done by teenagers...

Artists, celebrities, athletes and others who can afford to drive a Bentley can afford a driver when they are partying.

There are always alternatives to driving drunk. But you have to be smart enough to look for them, Romero!

For what, 2 decades the Miami Beach faux-artists community lead by ex-Commissioner Nancy Liebman aided and abetted by Mayors David Dermer and Matti Bower and with useless footsoldiers like Michael Vita, Claire Tomlin, Laura Jamieson, all with "created" unnecessary publicly supported jobs have gotten zillions for drunken artists,non-functioning artists, bad artists, and non-artists so as to get funding for themselves and political minions. Like every one of them didn't know Britto was a ticking bomb? Like Nancy Liebman didn't see what everyone else did at event after event over the past 10 years? Anyway, he had to be a drunk to say on Miami Beach, where all the sober artists have long ago left.

It just makes me sad that so much taxpayer money for art in public places is gobbled up by this BORING behemoth of an "artist" and his crew of lobbyists...money that gets spent on drunk driving in Bentleys, apparently. I can't imagine how Miami's REAL artists must feel about seeing his crap everywhere.

I'm commenting on Anonymous because I have none of those useless websites.

To get on with it, it's really sad to see that people rag on artists and celebrities as soon as they mess up even if it's just once. They're not Godly beings like everybody holds them out to be and other non famous people have made worse choices and worse mistakes. Stupid of him to get a DUI though instead of being responsible because in no way am I supporting his behavior.

The man is a good artist and it is nice to see his artwork in Miami because it makes the city look a little better among its ugly streets. Those who say he [or any other creative mind] sucks have -probably- done nothing to contribute to the world be it creatively or through other means.
