Yes, you read right. St. Augustine, Florida (@ 435-yrs-old) located just 272 miles north of Ft. Lauderdale beats out both Jamestown and Plymouth Rock by several years as the oldest city in the entire nation.
Now, as a Floridian, it’s sad for me to admit I only just recently visited St. Augustine on a family vacation for the first time. I am happy to report that I found this city to be both quaint and captivating with its ancient city look. We spent our time strolling through the historic district with all its shops, antique stores and bars. It was a very relaxing time and I would recommend St. Augustine to any couple or family looking for a quick weekend getaway. Although we did not stay in St. Augustine, we saw tons of cute bed & breakfast places that looked very cozy.
Here are some recommendations on things to do/see upon your visit:
* Castillo de San Marcos: fortress on the outskirts of the city
* St. Augustine Lighthouse & Museum
* Columbia Restaurant: must eat here! Try there “1905” salad – it’s incredible
* Old Town Trolley Tours
* Ghost Tours of St. Augustine
* Ripley’s Believe it or not Museum
* The St. Augustine Pub Crawl
* Whetstone Chocolates – perfect for dessert
Here’s a short video I shot to show you guys what the historic district looks like. Hope you enjoy!

Great video. Always forget how close St. Augustine really is. 4 hours is nothing in the car. Going to have to put it on the weekend getaway list. Great post!
