Growing up, my mom would take me to the public library on a weekly basis to rent out books and audio tapes. I grew to love the smell of old paperbacks and the quietness of the library which would later on become my studying sanctuary during my college years. However, in the past couple of years I must admit the closest thing that I visit that resembles a library is a Barnes and Noble or Borders. Call it laziness, the fact that there’s not a public library near by or the internet, but I just don’t go to the public library anymore. And to think all the money I spend on books on Amazon.com could actually be free if I only had a public library card???
Well, here’s something that I recently discovered which has me elated! The Miami-Dade Public Library System has a free service called the Bookmobile which is basically a mini library on wheels! Complete with books, music, audio books and videos all available for you to borrow. I recently saw one parked outside of Margaret Pace Park by my house on a Saturday afternoon and checked it out. That old book smell came back to me in a flash as I opened the door and now I know I can just check out the Bookmobile for my next good read. I applaud the Miami-Dade Public Library for coming up with such a great idea. I’ll definitely be checking out the Bookmobile next Saturday.
PS. The Bookmobile is parked outside Margaret Pace Park every Saturday from 12-1pm. They’re also happy to make you a library card as long as you bring a driver’s license.
