This year, I was on site representing for my client (GM) and interacting with all of the hundreds of bloggers who were in attendance for the three-day event. I must admit my favorite part was meeting tons of bloggers who I’ve been following but had never met in person including Spanglish Baby and Powerful Latinas as it was also a blast hanging with my local ladies Jewel’s Fab Life and Maria from Sex and the Beach.
There were tons of sponsors on site (although I’ve been told nothing in comparison to the madness that is Blog Her) but it was enough to make it so you had an intimate experience with each brand. General Mills hosted breakfast; meanwhile McDonald’s passed around free samples of their new smoothies (which are deelish). Buick and OnStar picked up bloggers from the airport and shuttled them to the hotel in style and also gave demos outside.
My favorite seminars were Building Your Social Media Tribe where they talked about how to build a following and find your niche and my other favorite was on How to Write a Product Review which was hosted by some of my fellow GM folks. I think tons of bloggers found that seminar helpful because they discussed the legality issues behind a post and how to correctly disclose the brands you’re currently working with on your blog.
Overall, some of the same themes kept popping up from time to time:
*If you’re going to blog, make sure its something your passionate about because it will take lots of time and dedication
*Its important to have an authentic voice when creating your blog and posts
*Disclose, disclose, disclose – be transparent in all you do
*Make sure you connect with other bloggers who cover your same topic, they will become your advocates and followers as well
