Lola's New Look

I recently came across these adorable (and funny!) pet tags which allow your pet to show off their unique personalities. It’s a website called Dog Art and they provide pet owners an array of unique, funkadelic name tags that either have some kind of funny saying or some cool art work on them. You can even upload your own artwork or picture and create your own unique tag for your pet. Here’s a picture of Lola sporting her new collar (from Dog Bar) and new tag we created online. (Check out the cupcake – so cute!) The tag reads, "I know I'm cute but you can't have me!"

G is for Good - Gigi Midtown

(Written by Juangui)

We’ve been meaning to try the new late night foodie spot in Midtown, across from the Midtown shops called Gigi’s. Every time I’d drive home from work, I’d pass this trendy and cool NYC-esque spot and try to encourage Steph to join me for dinner. So finally on Friday evening, we decided to give it a try and were assisted by some pretty good Yelp! reviews that helped me plan what I was going to order.

As you walk into Gigi’s, you can’t help but notice the large and exposed kitchen with several chefs working and prepping dishes. You can sit at the counter and literally watch them prepare your meal or grab a table facing the street. We opted for the table and immediately were greeted by a very nice waitress. She handed us the small menu with eclectic choices and this is where the fun began. For starters, there aren’t many places that offer $3 Stella on draft every day, I couldn’t resist. We began with the ever-so popular Gigi buns. A chunk of juicy pulled pork marinated with spices and put into a soft flat bread that makes it look like small tacos but these pulled pork buns are better than any taco you’ll ever have. They were perfectly seasoned and Steph and I actually wish we would have ordered more of these. We then ordered a side of local sweet summer corn with tofu shmeer with our main entrees, Caribbean shrimp pad thai for Steph and a slow braised curry duck leg with coconut risotto for me. Steph’s pad thai was a bit spicy for her liking (I thought it was just right) yet very fresh and I had the duck which was nicely cooked and the coconut risotto added a nice combo of sweet and salty to the meal. Gigi reminds me aesthetically of my favorite thai restaurant in NYC. Trendy, hip, yet offers unpretentious good Asian-infused meals, which is exactly what Midtown Miami needs. With more emerging culinary options like Gigi’s in Midtown, Miami could one day be catching up to foodie cities like NYC and San Fran.

Gigi is led by chef Jeff McInnis of Top Chef and nestled in Midtown, next to Bardot. They offer affordable, Asian-inspired cuisine and the best part, they open at 6pm everyday except Sundays and close at 3am on weekdays and 5am on weekends, perfect for your late night foodie fix or dinner with friends.

I’ll be doing more newsworthy restaurant reviews on Midtownchica.com so keep checking for more hot foodie spots around town. Bon Appetit!

Bikin' on Key Biscayne

If you live in Key Biscayne, I want you to know I'm very, very jealous of you. Why? Well, if you live there you know why... But let's just say you live in a little piece of paradise.

Luckily, we're only a short driving distance away and can enjoy most of the things Key Biscayne has to offer (gorgeous beaches, outdoor activities) on any given weekend. In fact, over Labor Day weekend, Juan and I made it a point to go out to Key Biscayne for what we knew would be a fun-filled day. As we made our way over the Rickenbacker Causeway, I was reminded of why I love Miami so much. There were tons of people outside enjoying the awesome weather either exercising or lounging around with family and friends (and their dogs). Then there's the cool water sports you can try out like sailing, kite surfing and kayaking. (Must remind myself to try one of these out soon!)

Our goal for the day was to take a nice bike ride around Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park and climb up the famous Cape Florida Lighthouse. Mission accomplished! We had an awesome time biking the 3-mile trail which borders the water and saw some interesting things including huge spiders (hanging from the trees but don't worry they were far away), butterflies and lizards. We then hiked up the lighthouse which had an awesome view from the top and took cool pics. (WARNING: I hit my head at the top of the staircase so watch your head!)

After getting in a nice little work out we set out for a snack - there's two restaurants inside the park and a couple of cute places in the main part of the Key you can for lunch.

My favorite part of the day was driving through some of the residential areas looking for "our future" home. (SoƱar no cuesta nada!) Here's a shot of one we fell in love with...
And if Bikin' on Key Biscayne isn't your thing, but you still want to get on a bike and do something crazy, try this out this weekend: The second BEER SNOB BICYCLE PUB CRAWL. Thanks to our friends at the Miami New Times for the heads up!

Boom Boom, Baby!

Is it me, or is there a tremendous baby boom happening now? This week alone, I have two girlfriends giving birth (Way to go Jacks and Webby!) and I have a few more friends due by the end of the year. It’s exciting (okay and maybe a bit scary) to think some of my friends are already starting to have babies but I’m getting more comfortable with the idea. I must admit the most exciting thing for me this year is that I’m going to become an auntie/tia for the first time! Juan’s sister and hubby are expecting their first baby and Juan and I couldn’t be happier.

So with lots of babies, come lots of baby showers and presents… I’m sure you or someone you know is planning one so I wanted to offer up some cute game ideas that have been huge hits at the last couple of showers I’ve been to. (Really, what’s a baby shower without some fun games?)

Baby Shower Game Ideas:

*Poopie in the Diaper/Dirty Diaper Game: Take 6 diapers and 6 different chocolate candy bars, melt the candy bars and put melted chocolates onto numbered diapers. Have each person fill out their guesses on a sheet of paper and guess the melted chocolate candy bar inside the diaper. I promise you’ll get the best pictures of people smelling the “dirty diapers”. The person to guess all 6 wins!
*Build-a-Diaper: Separate guests into teams of 3-4 and have them create a diaper using one roll of toilet paper. One person can “model” the diaper for a diaper dash runway.

*Guess the Belly Size: Take string/yarn and have each person cut the amount of string they think will measure around the mommy’s belly.

And to top things off, I was recently invited to The Children’s Place for a special shopping event where I was given $150 gift card to shop for baby clothes. Juan met me to go on this mini-shopping spree and we both had a fun time picking out the cutest little things! It was our first time shopping @ The Children’s Place and we were totally impressed with the selection of clothes and the styles which included everything from rocker to vintage. Who knew such cute fashion items come in such small sizes?!

Here are some of the outfits we selected:
