Hey guys! Hope everyone is enjoying the holidays. I must admit you know you're on vacation when you lose track of what day it is (is it Tuesday or Wednesday?!) On the other hand we've had some ups and downs mainly do the the #snowpocalypse that hit the Northeast this past week. JG and I were suppose to be spending the week in NYC but due to our flight cancellation on Monday, we had to cancel our trip all together. So instead we've been busy with wedding errands and seeing friends and family (and spending time together).
So by now I'm sure you're wondering about the title of my post? Well on Monday night I went to the movies and saw "Black Swan" with my girlfriends. I'd been wanting to see it because I love Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis (they get a bit freaky in this one) and the ballet theme is one dear to my heart as a "wannabe" dancer.
SPOILER ALERT
The movie starts out with Portman as this innocent, young ballerina obsessed with perfection. She ends up getting the lead role in her company's production of Swan Lake where she has to play both the white (good) and black (evil) twin swans. Slowly you realize that Portman's character is being consumed by her role that she literally begins to transform from her innocent self into the treacherous black swan (and when I say transform I mean black feathers and all). Some parts I had to look away because they were to grotesque for me to watch, but it's that kind of movie where you're watching and you're thinking what the hell is going on?! At the same time, you couldn't help but feel bad for Portman's character because she works so hard at her dream of being the best but at a very high price. There were other themes that come into play, the overbearing/jealous mother, the sleaze ball director, the fellow frenemie ballerina who is trying to steal her role... All in all, a fantastic work of art from director Darren Aronofsky (who also directed Requiem for a Dream).
