The Ugly Duckling

Hey guys! Hope everyone is enjoying the holidays. I must admit you know you're on vacation when you lose track of what day it is (is it Tuesday or Wednesday?!) On the other hand we've had some ups and downs mainly do the the #snowpocalypse that hit the Northeast this past week. JG and I were suppose to be spending the week in NYC but due to our flight cancellation on Monday, we had to cancel our trip all together. So instead we've been busy with wedding errands and seeing friends and family (and spending time together).

So by now I'm sure you're wondering about the title of my post? Well on Monday night I went to the movies and saw "Black Swan" with my girlfriends. I'd been wanting to see it because I love Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis (they get a bit freaky in this one) and the ballet theme is one dear to my heart as a "wannabe" dancer.
SPOILER ALERT

The movie starts out with Portman as this innocent, young ballerina obsessed with perfection. She ends up getting the lead role in her company's production of Swan Lake where she has to play both the white (good) and black (evil) twin swans. Slowly you realize that Portman's character is being consumed by her role that she literally begins to transform from her innocent self into the treacherous black swan (and when I say transform I mean black feathers and all). Some parts I had to look away because they were to grotesque for me to watch, but it's that kind of movie where you're watching and you're thinking what the hell is going on?! At the same time, you couldn't help but feel bad for Portman's character because she works so hard at her dream of being the best but at a very high price. There were other themes that come into play, the overbearing/jealous mother, the sleaze ball director, the fellow frenemie ballerina who is trying to steal her role... All in all, a fantastic work of art from director Darren Aronofsky (who also directed Requiem for a Dream).

Hey fellow chic-as! In light of all the holiday goodness going around, I decided it was a good time to do one of our popular chic-a giveaways! The lovely, local Gretell from Jewelry Fairies has partnered with us for this holiday special giveaway...

The ladies at Jewelry Fairies are dedicated to creating fashion jewelry using genuine gemstones, crystals, lamp work beads and more, whatever the artisan creativity and inspiration leads. They also use vintage jewelry which is recycled into new unique pieces. The unique handcrafted pieces are based on the idea that every piece is as unique as the person wearing it. Loves!

Why Buy When You Can Rent?!

No, we're not talking about a new 3-bedroom single family home out west or a lavish condo on the beach. We're talking about your next outfit!

Yes, fellow fashionistas... you know you're guilty of this crime. You go out, spend a fortune on a new outfit, wear it once, then forget about it in the back of your closet. Eeek! Well, what if you could rent your next designer outfit and then just simply return it??
Well, one of my BFF and MOH just sent me an invite to join a website called Rent The Runway and this is how it works:

*Browse from over 100 of the hottest designer brands for your next big event.
*Dress rentals start at just $50 and accessory rentals start at $10.
*Reserve for your special event up to 6 months in advance. (You can even reserve a backup size for free! )
*Simply drop your item in the mail in their prepaid envelope by noon on the last day of your rental. No need to dry clean!

Sounds easy enough, right?? I'm very much sold on it! I even have a friend who is waiting for the bridal line to be available so she can get her dress from here.  This is the perfect time to check it out with so many holiday and new year's parties coming up...

Enjoy!

Bloomie's Outlets are Here!

Remember what I told you guys back in January? Well it's finally here!

Last weekend I was walking through the old White Seahorse entrance at the Sawgrass Mills Mall (remember they use to say "You are now passing through the White Seahorse entrance. Usted esta pasando por la entrada White Seahorse.") and I looked up to see familiar black lettering which spelled out B-L-O-O-M-I-N-G-D-A-L-E-S outside of the old Books a Million store...

Yes, ladies and gents, the high-end retailer has finally gone discount! My favorite department store has officially opened up not one, but two outlet stores in South Florida. Such great news for us bargain hunters out there.

The outlet has a mix of women's, men's and children's apparel as well as shoes, fashion accessories and handbags, among other merchandise. What more could you ask for?

The second Bloomingdale's outlet store is located at the Dolphin Mall. Happy Shopping!
