1 mall, 3 local fashionistas, 6 stylish trends, more than 100+ stores and $300 to spend in two hours. What could all of this mean??Well, a couple of weeks ago I was invited to participate in the first-ever Avenutra Mall Fashionista event, better known as #AVMFashionista (on Twitter), where myself and two other fabulous (fashionista) bloggers, Kelly from Kelly’s Kloset and Daniela from Nany’s Klozet, were invited to take the ultimate shopping challenge – scour Aventura Mall in order to create the perfect head-to-toe outfit! Easy enough, right?!
The Rules:
*Had to tweet with #AVMFashionista hashtag
*Each girl received a $300 AVM gift card and six different styles to choose from in order to create the perfect trendsetter outfit
*Names were drawn from a hat to determine who got to pick their trend first
*Each girl was assigned five stores they could shop at, and the final outfit had to include at least two of those stores
*Afterwards, the folks from Aventura Mall posted each look/outfit on their Facebook page where everyone was encouraged to vote for their favorite outfit
*The best part? We got to keep our outfit regardless of who won!!
By chance, I happened to pick first and the trend I chose was “Birds are Taking Flight” which basically meant I had to find something to wear that embodied birds, feathers, owls, wings, etc. I chose that particular style because I remembered seeing a couple of things in magazines that said this was a big trend. Besides being a neat trend, the stores I was able to shop at included some of my favorites:
Anthropologie
Forever 21
Nordstrom
J. Crew
White House/Black Market
How could you go wrong at any of these stores, really? So off I went and my very first stop was Anthopologie. There I found my staple piece right off the bat, a high-waisted purple skirt with pink flamingo prints all on it. Not only was the color-scheme right up my alley, how much more Miami could you get with pink flamingos? I fell in love with skirt and even though I blew half my budget on the skirt, I knew the rest would just be details.
Since I had my signature piece out of the way, I made my way towards Forever 21 and Nordstrom where I knew I could easily accessorize my outfit and find a top and shoes to go with it. In Forever 21 I found a crème colored sweater top and plenty of accessories to go with my outfit, for the shoes I walked over to the Forever 21 store and took a risk by buying a pair of platform lace-up boots I absolutely loved! I could’ve gone the safe route by buying naked pumps, but I wanted to add some flare and winter-ize my look a bit.
Here’s a photo of my final look!
The other girls had their own styles that had to accomplish which included a 50s-trend and geometric angels trend.

Daniela’s look won best overall look – but I must admit both of my competitors looked ultra-adorable in their outfits!
Overall, it was an awesome event and we all had a blast trying on clothes and exploring the mall. I personally love Aventura Mall and would venture to say its one of the best malls in the region!
Thanks again to the folks from @AventuraMall for thinking of me and until next time!
